Pipetech is proud to welcome Tayari, who has joined our team through the DIVERT programme. An initiative dedicated to reducing offending and helping young people move into meaningful employment and training.
DIVERT is an award-winning custody prevention programme working with 18–25-year-olds in police custody or at risk of re-entering the criminal justice system. Through personalised coaching, mentoring, and access to resources, young people are supported into positive pathways and long-term opportunities.
Our involvement in DIVERT comes through Mace, one of our trusted partners. DIVERT is one of Mace’s focus charities, and through our collaboration on Belgrove House we are supporting Mace in delivering their Section 106 commitments. Which centre on creating apprenticeships, upskilling local residents, and helping people enter or return to the construction industry.
This partnership aligns closely with our values. By welcoming individuals through programmes like DIVERT, we are not only filling roles but we’re also helping people gain experience, build confidence, and establish long-term careers. While continuing to deliver the specialist, high-quality pipework solutions our clients rely on.
Pipetech have been fantastic ambassadors for S106 across our Mace projects. Their commitment to creating opportunities and developing people’s skills has been a breath of fresh air. The process with Pipetech has been seamless, from receiving job descriptions to interviewing candidates. I’m excited to see these candidates grow under Pipetech’s strong leadership and look forward to further supporting Pipetech in recruiting the next generation of plumbers!
Michaela Gaffney, Social Value Manager at Mace.
Tayari was referred to DIVERT for support into employment, and through the programme he has spent the past two years developing both personally and professionally. During this time, he has become an Official Youth Consultant for DIVERT and QPR Community Trust, sharing his experience to help others who are in similar circumstances to himself. He hopes his role inspires young people to use their time in more productive and impactful ways.
Developing Skills at Pipetech
Since joining our team, Tayari has been mentored by Frankie Riggs, who has supported him in developing the practical skills needed to progress in the mechanical and plumbing trade. With Frankie’s guidance, Tayari has gained experience in:
- Copper soldering for domestic services
- HDPE welding for drainage systems
- Testing and commissioning of boosted cold-water systems
- Cast iron rainwater pipework installation
- Pipework bracketry and support installation
He says the most valuable skill he has learnt so far is understanding how to test a boosted cold-water system, which is a complex and essential part of our work. Tayari’s long-term ambition is to earn the title of Master Plumber, and his willingness to learn shows he is well on his way.
I’m working with DIVERT to completely rewrite the script of my journey through life. The transition hasn’t been easy, and getting to where I am today feels nothing short of a miracle. Pipetech have given me an extremely valuable opportunity that will change my life for the better, and I couldn’t have done it alone.
Tayari
Tayari has been working with a number of fitters and has performed soldering, fusion welding HDPE, and a little casting. He’s very keen to learn, asks lots of questions, and even takes notes. He is respectful, arrives on time every day, and presents himself well. I would say his strengths are his willingness to learn, and hopefully he sticks with it and enjoys the process.
Brain Frasi, Project Manager
Pipetech is proud and grateful to be part of his journey.
